bilderbuchi: you actually create a drupal user account on your initial openid login. so yes, it's the same here.

the drupal openid module has some kind of problem with google though, I think google doesn't stick to the specification or

if you have a login you go to home>settings scroll down and add the openid. then you can login using it instead of username/pwd

@defetto it is a unified login system, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Openid
