you don't need to use the bass library, you can just drag it into vvvv then the vst plugin will be a node all by itself
with the VST (Dsp) node from the Bass library you can use your favourite DAW dynamics.
is there a compressor node (for compressing dynamics of sound)?

I guess it's best to leave the center out as that only turns true if none of the buttons are pressed. My controller outputs 15 when nothing is being pressed. and a circular sweep clockwise shows 0 to 7.

For a 0 to 1 output just remove all the stuff in between and divide the output by 255 and you should get a value between 0 and 1. If you want to do that outside the patch just add 1 to the output and divide it by 2.
So instead of -1 to 1 make it 0 to 1 and 0.5 as the center? well, you could basically delete the no button pressed thing. I was using it to pause a loop while no button was being used.^^
actually i already *did* add that output ;) gotta love opensource
one bug, perhaps: center button (no button pressed). the == node should be ==8, no? and i would add an output that gives you the direction as a value from 0-1 like gamecontroller node does
