Tookit Festival presenta

Toolkit Research
Workshop con gli artisti interattivi Weng Nam Yap e Karina Smigla Bobinski
in attesa del Toolkit Festival 2013

15-16 novembre 2012: Weng Nam Yap

Deadline: 13 novembre 2012

1-2 dicembre 2012:

Deadline: 27 novembre 2012

Graphics Speak - Weng Nam Yap

When Thu, Sep 13th 2012 until Sun, Sep 23rd 2012
Where Schmiede, Hallein, Salzburg, Austria

Application deadline: May 31st.
http://schmiede.ca/application

WHAT?
Schmiede is a producers festival and community, a playground where our ideas come to play.
Since 2003 annually, Schmiede produces this focused collective experience far off on an island in the Austrian countryside. We provide space, time, basic tools, food, events, a heterogeneous group of participants (Smiths), guests and projects. Schmiede unites to work and connect - genre, origin, tribe, eating habits - it doesn´t matter, motivation, quality and the will to work and engage with others are the core criteria.

WHO?
Schmiede receives around 200-250 applications per year. Schmiede accepts around 150 participants a year (numbers vary according to background eg.: a musician needs more space than a graphic designer) and invites around 30 guests. The SchmiedeNetwork consists of around 500 producers from over 20 nations and 5 continents. The annual mix of participants is split between 60% returning participants and 40% new participants. The age distribution is focused lies between 18 and 45, however the majority of Schmiede participants range from 20 to 35.

HOW?
For ten days the Saline in Hallein becomes an open and free playground (2000m2) for 150+ digital creatives and artists from all around the world. Depending on the needs and possibilities of its members the SmithNetwork moves along the borders of art, culture, handcraft and creative industries. Schmiede ends with the SchmiedeWorkshow, a grand public exhibition, where the Smith productions of the past ten days are presented to the the public and media.

WHY?
Do you have a project in mind, but don't have the space, people or tools to realize it?
Do you want to meet like minded creatives to collaborate, exchange ideas or just get inspired?
Do you want to present your project or idea in front of your peers and get feedback?
Schmiede might be the right place for you to get started or continue.

Schmiede stands for three things: network, create, present

Emotiv stuff..

The workshop will be divided in two modules of 6 hours each:

1 – VVVV for audiovisual programming and performance

The workshop aims at all users of VVVV wishing to deepen VVVV in the context of performance and audio-visual programming. Topics covered will be for all tastes and many fields of interest, ranging from the management of audio materials in VVVV to the "visualization" of sound’s features, from the implementation of MIDI controllers, to various kind of analysis and transformations of audio signal offered by VVVV. We will see how to load FreeFrame effects straight into our patches and finally we will see one of the most useful companions of VVVV, the Timeliner, which allows to script and control patches over time.
The workshop is aimed primarily at participants who are familiar with the basic elements of VVVV programming (formats, IO boxes, Spreads, etc.)

2 – EmotiVVVV!
A workshop about EEG and art

EEG or electroencephalography is the recording of electrical activity in the brain that can be used to control software on a computer in several ways.

This is a hands-on workshop about neuro-technology and art, with a focus on the Emotiv software and hardware. The workshop will start with an introduction on EEG signal and how it can be manipulated to perform different kinds of data visualizations and sonifications by using the multipurpose toolkit VVVV. During the workshop different techniques and protocols will be introduced to design real-time EEG-based interfaces for Art or neuro-feedback applications.
During the workshop, Emotiv hardware and SDK will be explained, demonstrating how to interface it with VVVV environment. During the second part of the workshop, participants will design their own audiovisual tools to interface with the Emotiv technology.
The workshop was produced in collaboration with iMAL, as a part of the “Tangible Feelings” symposium. http://www.imal.org/en/activity/tangible-feelings
